“…We are being pushed to the wall and now ready to go into self-help, since President Buhari has equally decided to pay deaf ear to our predicament.”  -Comrade Ozobo

The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI has said that Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has made himself unpopular by turning a foot soldier to Oba of Bini and making himself an element of oppression against Ijaws in Edo state.

The National President of the group, Comrade Ozobo Austin while addressing section of Edo Ijaw youths who pay him a Christmas visit at heritage hotel, Warri said it was shameful that the Governor of Edo State could condescend so low to act as a mouthpiece and a megaphone to  the Oba of Benin.

IPDI President equally said that Ijaws in Edo State can never be intimidated by the brazen oppressive tendencies of Governor Obaseki and Oba of Benin. “We are being pushed to the wall and now ready to go into self-help, since President Buhari has equally decided to pay deaf ear to our predicament”.

The activist added that the governor who ought to have been neutral over the current face-off between Ijaws and Binis in Edo State had turned a megaphone to Oba of Bini which is shameful.

Ozobo asserted that Gov. Obaseki has made himself unpopular by making himself or the government of Edo State an extension of the traditional council of Benin people out of ignorance. The activist further added “history has it that the Ijaws are the most ancient people in west Africa, Professor J.S Coleman in his book titled Nigeria -Background to Nationalism (Los Angeles 1963, page 28) described the Ijaws as ‘perhaps the most ancient in West Africa whose language has little or no affinity with any other in Nigeria” He stressed that Obaseki had turned a disappointment for saying that Ijaw communities and kingdoms do not exist in Edo State. “this is an impeachable offence, trying to eliminate an indomitable race from the earth surface and that Obaseki does not fit to be a governor in Nigeria. He went further “Obaseki is so sentimental, tribalize, and turning to be governor of Bini ethnic group, instead of being a governor of every Edo tribes, irrespective of their affiliation, ethnic and political backgrounds-Ozobo asserted.
