We give thanks to God for yet another year of celebration most especially the 10th year anniversary of IJAW WOMEN LEADERSHIP FORUM, may God name be praised both now and forever. This year celebration is a very unique one and we are highly honoured and privileged today as Ijaw Women Leadership Forum celebrates her 10th year anniversary. It is indeed a very remarkable and historic moment.

The association Ijaw Women Leadership Forum –IWLF which was established in May 6, 2007 is a non-political, non-governmental and non-partisan organization, whose membership strength is about 5000 and presently the organization is having a branch established in Bayelsa State. The Meeting Days of the association is every First (1st) Sunday of every two months. Basically meetings are held Six (6) times in a year.

Permit me quickly to say some of the historical achievements of the Ijaw Women Leadership Forum for the past Ten (10) years of its existence.

Ijaw Women Leadership Forum –IWLF has empowered over 3000 of their members through training at SONGHAL in Amukpe, Delta State. That is a place where women learn how to operate Snail Farming, Fish Farming, Piggery Farming and Catering, after the training, IWLF also empowered the women with Microfinance loan for them to start some small scale business which a lot of us have used to feed and train our children and keep our families.

Sewing Machines, Popcorn Machines, Hair-Dryer equipment and Grinding Machines were also used to empower members of the Association.

When talking about our achievement, it will be unfair on our part if we don’t mention three (3) wonderful personalities that God sent to also support this organization. They are His Excellency Henry Seriake Dickson the Governor of Bayelsa State and the former Governor of Delta State His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan and our Super Comrade Joseph Evah who happens to be the Grand Patron\Founder and Coordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group -(IMG) for their unflinching support morally and financially. We say thank you, thank you and thank you. We believe the hands of the givers are always on top and so shall it be forever and ever in Jesus name.

Ijaw Women Leadership Forum –ILWF have done some great humanitarian programmes these past years that touch lives of not just its members but also their families, their communities both in Lagos, Delta State, Bayelsa State and other Niger Delta States.

  1. IWLF during the flood that destroyed lives and property in Delta and Bayelsa State, the Organization mobilized members and provided Relief materials like Food stuffs, Clothing, Blankets and Foams to the creek of Delta and Bayelsa States to Helpless Children, Aged Parents, Helpless Mothers, Brothers and Sisters that were affect then.
  2. It is on record that IWLF have been providing empowerment material to members such as Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers, Grinding Machines , Pop-Corn making machines, Generator Sets to mention with, as they make members economically viable to support their husbands in taking care of their children and family members.
  3. IWLF through the support of the Bayelsa State Governor His Excellence Henry Seriake Dickson provided loan for members to start up small scale businesses.
  4. IWLF have internal programme that take care of Widows, Orphans and the less privileged in the society as they have been with them through their trying period. Time will not permit me to express all our achievements so far.

In sincerity we wish to give honour to whom honour is due by giving award to the following people who have supported the association in great way.

  1. His Excellency Henry Seriake Dickson (Executive Governor of Bayelsa State)
  2. Emmanuel Uduaghan (Former Governor of Delta State)
