The Bayelsa State Government says Governor Henry Seriake Dickson remains focused and can never be distracted by what it describes as the laughable, ridiculous and callous campaign of calumny orchestrated by mischief-makers.

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson

A statement released on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, said that the governor had so far displayed exemplary vision with an uncanny political deftness, courage and capacity in leading the state and therefore remains unbowed despite the attempt to derail his vision for the state.

The statement noted that only enemies of the state will sponsor groups to embark on a campaign of hate and falsehood against Governor Dickson, who it said has been tirelessly working to provide critical infrastructure and developing different sectors of the state.

It said that the government would have ignored the false allegations because it knows those behind them and their obviously sponsored groups but elected to respond in order to set the records straight.

“We know those behind this well-orchestrated plan to ensure that the public is misinformed deliberately through devilish scheme and indeed we do know their sponsors. They are frustrated that all their efforts to find their way back to the government despite all their pleas were rejected. We always knew a dog would always go back to its vomit.

“We always knew they will resort to this after all their nightly pleas to return to government failed. The government advises them to caution themselves in the interest of the peace we currently enjoy in the state and which they are doing everything to destroy. Let them purge themselves of all hate and this evil campaign,“ the statement noted.

It said anyone familiar with Governor Dickson’s brand of politics knows that he is completely different from what the state has had in its recent history.

Obuebite added: “Apart from his commitment and determination to change the infrastructure narrative about the state, Governor Dickson is equally bold and courageous and he is not a vindictive leader. So far, he has set a pace that is unrivalled in the history of Bayelsa that even his traducers shamelessly admit he has done well in terms of infrastructure development.

“They have also in recent months, blinded by politics and other invidious considerations, consistently spread falsehood about an imaginary rift between Governor Dickson and former President Goodluck Jonathan, a highly-respected Bayelsan and global leader of repute.

“Such fractured relationship between the governor and our former President can only be found in the wicked imagination of the purveyors. For the umpteenth time, the government states that there is no rift between both leaders.

“Those spreading such rumours are only trying to create confusion where there is none in their bid to capitalise on it to gain political advantage. But their plot had always failed and this will not be different.”

According to the government, “only a man not sure of himself will plant stories of his purported impeachment plot in the media as claimed by one of the faceless groups and their known sponsors.

“This is a very laughable claim. It only betrays a very shallow knowledge and understanding of who Governor Dickson is”.
