We, the Foundation for Ijaw Youth Empowerment, (FIYE), hereby urge the Governor of Ondo state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to live-up to his responsibilities as a Governor in the on-going military assault against Ajapa community, Arogbo Kingdom in Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo State.

It’s an open fact that the protection and security of lives and properties of citizens in any State are the primary duties of the Governor in that State.

It’s also unequivocal to say the Governor of any given State is the chief security officer, aside been the number one citizen of that state.

It’s our dismay on this backdrop, to see the Governor of Ondo state to be so defiant towards his primary duties, let alone discharging his responsibilities on the maltreatment, molestation and assault against Ajapa town, since April 30 till date.

Nevertheless, it’s a show of incompetence as it is shambolic for our learned Governor to remain reluctant in doing the needful about the welfare of the displaced Ijaw indigenes in Ondo state under his watch.

However, our Governor from the legal sphere must know that he was wrongly informed by his Deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi about the level and degree of damage and havoc meted on Ajapa community and her residents by the Nigerian army.

As a matter of fact, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Ajayi, who reported to his boss, Governor Akeredolu, that nothing much was destroyed and that only few houses were burnt, did an incomplete inspection of the community.

This is why he was unable to give proper and full report as far as Ajapa invasion, bombardment, looting, destruction and ransacking by the Nigerian soldiers is concerned.

We must nip it in bud that only an independent, non-governmental investigative body can unveil or reveal the true state, and enormity of the atrocities committed by the Nigerian Army on Ajapa residents.

Albeit, we want to use this medium to appreciate our brothers in Delta State for providing relief materials for Ajapa residents, who are still in the swampy forest.

We acknowledge your master-stroke in taking the lead in this process to ease the suffering of Ajapa residents. It takes love for humanity and the wisdom of God to exercise this gesture.

Accept our sincere gratitude. Words are not enough to express our appreciation for your unprecedented feat in this dehumanizing situation.

On this note, we are calling on your Excellency, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, Governor of Ondo State, to emulate the humanitarian stride by our brothers in Delta State, and show affection towards the defenseless Ijaw indigenes in your State, instead of demonstration of negligence.

We must also remind your Excellency that among those suffering in the forest are aged ones, pregnant women, infants and newborns as well as the sick, which need your unreserved intervention.
