BRIG. GEN. P.T. BOROH (RTD). SPECIAL ADVISER TO THE PRESIDENT ON NIGER DELTA AND COORDINATOR PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY PROGRAMME

The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd.) was in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital, at the weekend to have a meeting with the leaders of ex-Agitators in the Niger Delta. At the meeting, the leaders assured him of their readiness to work for peace in the region so as to reflate the economy. They also pledged their loyalty and support to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting had in attendance all former leaders captured under Phase One of the programme. Gen. Boroh assured the ex-Agitators of the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing development in the Niger Delta and outlined various policies of government targeted at improving the lives of the Niger Deltans. He informed them of government’s plan to legalise and operationalize Modular Refineries in the region.

Brig-Gen. Boroh (Rtd.) said this would create jobs for many youth in the region and also promote peace. The meeting addressed various issues raised by the leaders of the ex-Agitators ranging from funding of the ex-Agitators to the non-representation of the ex-Agitators in Pan Niger Delta Development Forum PANDEF.

Gen. Boroh promised to look into all issues raised by the leaders while assuring them that government has already concluded plans to increase funding of the Amnesty programme.

The meeting in Uyo is in continuation of the on-going consultation with relevant stakeholders in the Niger Delta on ways to promote peace in the region. The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd.) had previously met with leaders of the ex-Agitators in Benin, Edo State and Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The next meeting with the group is scheduled to hold in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
