Former President of Ijaw Youth Council – IYC Worldwide and Secretary, Delta State Advocacy Committee against Oil Facility Vandalisation, Chief (Dr.) Chris Ekiyor, has urged the Federal Government to follow up its recent declaration on infrastructural shortfall in the Niger Delta and the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, with a practical marshal plan to uphold the ongoing peace process.

Ekiyor, in a statement, commending the Presidency for the recent pronouncements on the Niger Delta area, said: “The pronouncements must be followed with a conscious enforceable marshal action for the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko and the infrastructure deficit of the region in order to sustain the ongoing peace process.”

Dr. Chris Ekiyor. He said: “For instance, approval of outstanding budgetary releases for 2016 for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, which is a step in the right direction, must be followed by the actual release of the approved funds. Though Mr. President has approved the fund, the finance ministry should do all within its powers to release the funds in order to ensure that the various delivery agencies/parasatals of government carry out their mandate.

“There is no gain saying that the PAP is one program helping to sustain the peace, ensuring minimal youth agitation in the region. On the other hand, handlers of the PAP must come to terms with the fact that the office is not for political patronage, but a security program and there must be a refocusing of its effort to the region,” he added.
