Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, an umbrella body of Ijaw youth organization has demanded a time frame for the relocation of multinational oil companies back to their operational headquarters in the Niger Delta.

This, IYC said was in line with the pronouncement of the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

IYC President Eric Omare, who stated this when he addressed the media in Warri recently, described the directive as a step in the right direction. He also said there was need for government to put a time frame to it in order to compel the oil firms to act without further delay. He also insisted on 100 percent control of the region’s resources by the people, stating that the Land Use Decree which vested the ownership of land to the government was antithetical to the sustainable development of the region. The IYC President commended Acting President Osinbajo for advocacy visit to various States in the region.

He added that the federal government should address fundamental issues bedeviling the region as palliative measures would not address the Niger Delta question.
